How a contractor created zinc cladding for 332 apartments

The prestigious ‘Regatta’ – a $100-million development of 332 apartments – is part of the brand new residential complex: ‘Wentworth Point Marinas’ on Homebush Bay, Sydney.

Multi award-winner, Sterland Roofing & Cladding, was nominated to manufacture and install a specially designed zinc cladding system throughout the development.

Director, Mathew Sterland said:

“We were proud to have been chosen for of our capability as specialists in zinc and copper wall cladding, roofing and architectural façade systems. This project was both a tribute and a challenge”.

The Challenges: Design, Budget, Fire Rating and Privacy

From planning, to design and completion, the Sterland Roofing & Cladding cladding systems were fabricated to comply with the strict fire rating of the large multi-residential development.

Mathew explained:

“We used VM Zinc point eight gauge Quartz-Zinc angle standing seam, installed over a galvanised substrate to support the softer zinc material. Our challenge was to adapt the system to comply with the Development Application fire ratings and also fit within the developer’s budget ... we managed to successfully achieve this on all levels”.

He added:

“To fulfil the privacy requirements of the DA, we also fabricated special locker-style perforated screens. This was achieved by perforating the zinc and then installing it into window tracks”.

Teamwork made the Difference

Mathew recognizes the outstanding collaboration Sterland Roofing & Cladding received on the Wentworth Point Marinas assignment:

“We had a great team of workers on site and support personnel in the office,” he said. “I would also like to say a huge ‘thanks’ to our sister company: Prestige Roofing and Cladding Supplies, for expertly producing all the panels for the project on time and on budget”.

In addition to working on significant projects such as the Wentworth Point Regatta Marina, Sterland Roofing & Cladding has been selected to work on The Oaks Farm Stay and large developments in Randwick, Ultimo and Newcastle. They have Australia’s largest VM Zinc installation team and offer a range of services across heritage, architectural and commercial projects, plus the enhancement of existing structures.
